The UNJLC: a well-oiled logistical machine in disasters

The United Nations Joint Logistics Centre (UNJLC) is the part of the UN that brings logistical order into chaos in times of serious natural disasters, such as earthquakes or a tsunami, or man-made disasters like civil wars.

It restores lines of supply in disaster areas, such as airports, harbours and roads, and creates other facilities so that humanitarian relief supplies like food, water, medicines and tents can be distributed rapidly. Royal Haskoning (NL) has evaluated logistical problems for the UNJLC in many remote areas throughout the world.
