Bridge over the River Tisza, Hungary

The M3 motorway-bridge over the river Tisza at Oszlár – designed by UVATERV - consists of two separate composite bridges in close proximity.

During the design and the construction of the stuctures, new and outstanding solutions were applied: • Cracks in the reinforced concrete deckslab were taken into account in the static calculation • The deck was cast in stages without temporary supports • Nearly all of the steel structure connections were welded • First application of flanges of large thickness (100 mm) • The 1050 ton steel structure of the bridge was assembled on the shore, launched longitudinally and then moved transversally on barges to its final place, as one unit.
