Committee on Liability and Insurance

TERMS OF REFERENCE (September 2010)
To identify significant issues impacting on risk and liability for the European consulting engineering industry and formulate strategies to address these and, in particular:
  • To compile the liability & insurance requirements and insurance delivery in the European member countries and draw recommendations for the Member Associations.
  • To monitor and influence where necessary EU legislation and proposals impacting on Member Associations.  

SCOPE OF WORK (2010)
Conditions impacting on risk and liability are primarily perceived as national issues. 

  • Fact-finding study on the diversity of national liability conditions and insurance practices to demonstrate the complexity and workings of the European engineering consultancy, and to provide guidance on cross-border services (in progress)
  • Policy statements on capped liability and joint & several liability (require a recast in the coming months)

Black Sea Coastal Erosion, Romania
Previous seafront protection management works in Eforie, Romania have deteriorated over time, as a result of frequent extreme hydro-meteorological phenomena (sea storms, waves etc.) and due to anthropic influences (alluvial shares reduction, constructions with influences on coastal currents, limited financial resources for maintanance of existing coastal protection developments) etc.
